Canmore Engine Bridge

landmark

The Engine Bridge spans the Bow River with a distinct, heavy iron frame that features rare vertical end posts. Built by the Canadian Pacific Railway in eighteen ninety-one, this structure was designed to carry coal trains from the local mines to the main railway line. The main span itself is older than the bridge at this site, dating back to eighteen eighty, and was salvaged and adapted to create the current crossing. You can still see metal plaques near the top of the end posts that read T. B. Co. eighteen eighty.
