The Canmore Miners' Union Hall is a wooden building with a false-front gable that marks it out from the surrounding structures. It is the only public building from Canmore's earliest era that remains in its original location. Built between nineteen ten and nineteen thirteen, the hall was constructed by local coal miners using their own volunteer labor and expertise. They formed a union in nineteen oh five to advocate for safer conditions and higher wages, eventually creating this space after mine owners evicted them from company land during a strike.
