The Iglesia de San Francisco is the oldest surviving church in Bogotá, distinguished by its whitewashed colonial facade that stands in sharp contrast to the dense, modern traffic of Avenida Jiménez and Carrera Séptima. Founded by Franciscan friars between fifteen fifty-seven and fifteen sixty-six, the building anchored a sprawling religious complex that once spanned two full city blocks, including expansive cloisters and a convent that were demolished in nineteen seventeen to make way for the nearby Palacio de San Francisco.
