Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem

religious

The Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem sits on the southern slopes of Marjan Hill, a simple single-nave stone structure built before fifteen hundred. You can identify it by its modest, rectangular form tucked into the forest landscape and the grand staircase that leads up to its entrance. Originally constructed during a time when hermits sought isolation in the caves and cliffs of this peninsula, the building spent the years after the first world war in neglect, briefly serving as a barn before the Marjan Association undertook a thorough restoration in nineteen twenty-seven.
