Elephantine Island Pyramid

historic

The Elephantine Island pyramid is a small, three-step structure built from locally sourced pink granite. It stands in the northwest part of the Old Kingdom city at the southern end of the island, rising about five meters today from a square platform. Unlike the great tombs of Giza, this construction contains no internal chambers or underground burial spaces, leading scholars to debate whether it functioned as a shrine, a territorial marker, or a symbol of the primeval mound of creation.
