Fortress of Babylon

The Fortress of Babylon is defined by its massive, alternating layers of limestone blocks and red bricks, forming thick walls that have survived for nearly two millennia. Located on the east bank of the Nile in what is now known as Coptic Cairo, this Roman-era stronghold was designed to control the river trade and guard the entrance to a vital canal that once linked the Nile to the Red Sea.
