The Agora of the Competaliasts is defined by its stone floor of gneiss, which is marked with a dense, systematic grid of holes. These holes are the permanent remains of the wooden stakes once used by ancient merchants to anchor their market tents. Built in the final quarter of the second century before Christ, this marketplace sits directly beside the Sacred Harbour of Delos.
