Marina Beach stretches thirteen kilometers along the Bay of Bengal, marking it as the longest natural urban beach in India. Its wide, sandy expanse evolved from a simple coastal strip into a grand public promenade in the eighteen eighties, when the British governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff commissioned its development. He chose the name Marina, inspired by the Italian word for the seashore.
