The Red Taj is a striking, dome-topped mausoleum constructed entirely of red sandstone, standing within the quiet grounds of the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Nehru Nagar. While its symmetrical design and central dome echo the appearance of the famous Taj Mahal, this structure is far more modest, lacking both the white marble inlay and the towering minarets of the imperial monument. It remains a rare example of how European adventurers who rose to prominence in India during the eighteenth century adopted local architectural styles for their own final resting places.
