The Alipore Museum is defined by its long, brick-red walls that stretch across fifteen acres of land. Built in nineteen oh six to serve as the Alipore Central Jail, this site functioned as a colonial prison for over a century until its closure in February twenty nineteen. It reopened in September twenty twenty-two as an independence museum, honoring the many figures of the freedom struggle who were once held here.
