Makam Raja-Raja Mataram Kotagede is defined by its thick, red-brick walls and ornate wooden gates that mirror Hindu architectural styles despite its identity as an Islamic royal site. Built between fifteen eighty-nine and sixteen oh-six by the Mataram kingdom founder, Panembahan Senopati, the complex serves as the final resting place for the early rulers of Mataram and their kin, including Ki Ageng Pemanahan and Sultan Hadiwijaya.
