Neary’s on Chatham Street is identifiable by the two ornate cast-iron lamp brackets that extend from the exterior, holding lanterns over the entrance. These fixtures are among the last of their kind in Dublin, and they signal a rare, largely unaltered late-Victorian public house. While the site functioned as Casserly’s Tavern as early as the eighteen fifties, it took the name Neary in eighteen eighty-seven when Thomas Neary became the proprietor.
