Palazzo di Parte Guelfa

educational

The Palazzo di Parte Guelfa is a complex of connected buildings distinguished by a heavy stone facade and a terracotta relief by Luca della Robbia positioned above the main entrance. This structure served as the headquarters for the Guelph party, the powerful political faction that supported the pope and governed Florence during the Middle Ages. Originally, the party held meetings in the nearby church of Santa Maria sopra la Porta until the fourteenth-century construction of the first palace section.
