Torre Aurora, or the Dawn Tower, rises from a promontory at the foot of the San Cristoforo hill, marking the boundary between the historic village of Monterosso al Mare and the newer Fegina district. Built by the Genoese in the sixteenth century, the stone structure was part of a broader defensive network of thirteen watchtowers designed to protect the village from frequent pirate raids. Local residents sometimes call it the tower at the peak of the sea, a name reflecting its position overlooking the Ligurian coastline.
