Casa Scaccabarozzi is unmistakable for its ochre color and its impossibly thin profile, which narrows to just fifty-four centimeters at one point. Known locally as the Fetta di Polenta, or slice of polenta, this nine-story residence was designed by Alessandro Antonelli in eighteen forty. Antonelli, the architect behind the city’s massive Mole Antonelliana, received this tiny, awkward plot of land as payment for his earlier work in the Vanchiglia district. When he failed to purchase the neighboring land to expand his footprint, he decided to build on the restricted site anyway.
