The Waseda International House of Literature, also known as the Haruki Murakami Library, is defined by the curved wooden panels tracing wave-like lines across its white exterior. Opened in October two thousand twenty-one on the Waseda University campus, this institution was created after the author donated his personal collection of books, manuscripts, and thousands of vinyl records to his alma mater. Architect Kengo Kuma renovated the former university building to incorporate a signature wooden tunnel, a design element intended to evoke the tunnels frequently found in Murakami’s own fiction.
