Akagi Shrine

Akagi Shrine is instantly recognizable by the clean, light-filled geometry of its structures, which blend traditional Shinto elements with minimalist glass and wood. Rebuilt in two thousand ten, the site was designed by architect Kengo Kuma to integrate the shrine with a modern residential complex. This project was a deliberate effort to secure the institution’s future, creating a space where a sanctuary, a café, and high-end apartments share the same city block in the Kagurazaka neighborhood.
