Calle de la Amargura

Calle de la Amargura is a short, stone-paved street in the San Ángel neighborhood of Mexico City that winds between high, thick walls and colonial-era mansions. Its name is tied to the Catholic tradition of the Via Crucis, or the Stations of the Cross, recalling the path Jesus walked while carrying the cross. During the colonial period, religious processions moved along this street from the nearby Carmelite convent of San Ángelo Mártir toward the Plaza de San Jacinto.
