In the Barrio de Xochimilco, the tradition of *hojalatería*—or tin-smithing—has persisted for over three hundred years. While once a common trade with fifteen different workshops in the neighborhood, only a few now remain to carry on the practice of cutting, shaping, and soldering tin into frames, boxes, and decorative toys. The craft, which uses techniques passed down through generations, has provided a distinct identity to this historic settlement since its colonial-era foundations.
