The Ladder of Kotor is a historic mule trail characterized by a series of seventy hairpin turns that climb steeply up the limestone face of Mount Lovćen. Before modern roads were constructed, this zigzag path served as the primary connection between the coastal city of Kotor and the interior of Montenegro. Traders, caravans, and messengers relied on the route to transport goods like cheese, livestock, and salt between the Adriatic port and the mountain settlements.
