Auckland Domain is the city’s oldest park, defined by the sweeping, grassy floor of an ancient volcanic explosion crater. Measuring seventy-five hectares, this green expanse sits at the center of the Auckland volcanic field, a landscape shaped by eruptions roughly one hundred thousand years ago. While the crater floor provides expansive space for sports and recreation, the surrounding tuff ring—formed from volcanic ash and debris—rises to provide a natural amphitheater and vantage points over the city.
