The Old Town Hall is recognizable by a cannonball embedded directly into the masonry of its tower. This iron sphere remains lodged there as a permanent marker from eighteen oh nine, when Napoleon’s troops bombarded the city from across the Danube. Standing on the Main Square, the building is the oldest city hall in Slovakia and consists of several medieval burgher houses—those of the Jacobus, Unger, and Pawer families—that were connected over centuries to form a single complex.
