Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

other

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a working harbour defined by two historic basins, the Alfred Basin and the Victoria Basin, which sit between the Atlantic Ocean and the base of Table Mountain. The site takes its name from the royal family; Queen Victoria’s second son, Prince Alfred, arrived here in September eighteen sixty as a sixteen-year-old midshipman to tip the first load of stone for the breakwater, beginning the construction of Cape Town’s first real harbour.
