Jongmyo Shrine is defined by the Jeongjeon Hall, a long, horizontal wooden structure stretching one hundred and nine meters that ranks among the longest single-piece wooden buildings in the world. This is the primary Confucian royal shrine of the Joseon Dynasty, established in thirteen ninety-four by King Taejo when he moved the capital to Seoul. The site was built to house the spirit tablets of deceased kings and queens, serving as a sacred space for ancestral rites that linked the living monarchs to their predecessors.
