Puerta del Puente

historic

The Puerta del Puente, or Gate of the Bridge, is a freestanding sandstone monument defined by its three sections and prominent fluted Doric columns. It stands at the head of the historic Roman Bridge, occupying a site where various gates have regulated entry to the city since the first century. While its foundations trace back to Roman times, the structure took its current form during a Renaissance project ordered in fifteen seventy-two.
