The Albolafia watermill is marked by a massive wooden wheel, fifteen meters in diameter, turning against the current of the Guadalquivir River near the Roman Bridge. Once a functional piece of hydraulic engineering, this structure was built in the twelfth century during the Almohad period to lift river water into an aqueduct, which then carried the supply up to the royal gardens of the nearby Alcázar.
