Rue Saint-Victor

Rue Saint-Victor is defined by its straight, purposeful path through the heart of Carouge, connecting the bridge over the Arve River directly to the central market square. This street was laid out in seventeen eighty-five as part of a calculated project by the Kingdom of Sardinia to establish a commercial rival to Geneva. The name itself recalls the ancient priory of Saint-Victor, which held land here long before the current grid of pastel-colored buildings and shuttered windows was commissioned by King Victor-Amadeus the Third.
