Statue Jean-Jacques Rousseau

monument

The statue of Jean-Jacques Rousseau stands on a small island where the Rhône River flows out from Lake Geneva. This bronze figure, sculpted by James Pradier, was cast in Paris and inaugurated here on February twenty-fourth, eighteen thirty-five. The island itself, once known as the Île aux Barques, was renamed to honor the philosopher who was born in the city in seventeen twelve.
