Gateacre is defined by its collection of Tudor-revival cottages and black-and-white buildings that cluster around the old village core. This area, which sits between the suburbs of Woolton and Childwall, contains over one hundred listed buildings within a quarter-mile radius. While the name is pronounced gat-ick-er, it refers to the ancient way to the acre field of Much Woolton.
