Calderstones Park takes its name from six Neolithic sandstone monoliths that stand as the oldest monument in Liverpool. These megaliths, carved with ancient spirals and geometric patterns, were originally part of a chambered burial tomb constructed between four thousand and three thousand BC. For centuries, the stones were subject to local myths, with various scholars once incorrectly identifying them as relics of a Druidic circle.
