The stone platforms remaining at this site are remnants of the West Derby railway station, which opened on December first, eighteen seventy-nine. Situated in a deep cutting south of Mill Lane, the station served as a stop on the North Liverpool Extension Line, a route built by the Cheshire Lines Committee to bypass the prohibitive costs of tunneling under Liverpool’s city center.
