Royal Courts of Justice

The Royal Courts of Justice is a massive grey stone edifice on the Strand, distinguished by its forest of pinnacles, turrets, and gothic arches. It houses the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales, functioning as the center of the British civil judicial system. When it opened in eighteen eighty-two, the building was a controversial project that took over eight years to complete, marred by labor strikes and the displacement of four thousand people from the slum houses previously on the site.
