Original site of the Globe Theatre

The site of the original Globe Theatre is marked by a plaque and information panels tucked away on Park Street, near the edge of modern Borough Market. Built in fifteen ninety-nine, the theater was the home of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, the acting company that included William Shakespeare. To secure the building materials, the company famously dismantled their previous playhouse in Shoreditch during the winter and hauled the timber across the Thames to this plot of land.
