The Royal Albert Hall is an elliptical landmark constructed from Fareham red brick, instantly recognizable by its vast wrought-iron and glass dome. Opened by Queen Victoria in eighteen seventy-one, the hall was built to fulfill the vision of her late husband, Prince Albert, as a center for the arts and sciences. An eight-hundred-foot-long terracotta frieze depicting the "Triumph of Arts and Sciences" encircles the exterior, shielding the grand amphitheater within.
