The most prominent feature here is a verdigris-coated spire that rises two hundred forty-one feet above a five-story, buff-hued terra cotta structure. This is the Bullocks Wilshire Building, a masterwork of Art Deco design completed in nineteen twenty-nine. Architects John and Donald Parkinson conceived the building as an upscale department store tailored to the arrival of the automobile, featuring large street-facing display windows and a primary entrance oriented toward a rear parking lot.
