St. Basil Catholic Church rises from the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Kingsley Drive like an ancient, angular fortress. Its Brutalist design consists of twelve irregular concrete towers with a rough, aggregate finish that bristles with jagged, three-dimensional windows of stained glass and iron. Designed by the firm A. C. Martin and Associates and completed in nineteen sixty-nine, the building replaced an earlier church that had been constructed on another site in nineteen twenty and later damaged by fire.
