Botanical Building

The Botanical Building is a long, rectangular structure defined by its intricate lattice of narrow wooden strips known as lath. Designed by architect Carleton M. Winslow for the nineteen fifteen Panama-California Exposition, this redwood frame creates a soft, filtered light inside that sustains over two thousand plants, including ferns, orchids, and palms. It remains one of the largest lath structures in the world, stretching two hundred and fifty feet long and sixty feet high.
