Plaza de Panama

The Plaza de Panama is a grand, sun-drenched central square defined by its open space and the ornate, Spanish Colonial Revival buildings that form its perimeter. Created for the nineteen fifteen Panama-California Exposition, the plaza served as a focal point where visitors moved from the shaded arcades of the surrounding avenues into an airy, central gathering spot. Its architecture was intended to evoke the plazas of Spain and Spanish-America, featuring facades inspired by cathedrals and palaces of the sixteenth century.
