The San Diego Museum of Art

The San Diego Museum of Art is defined by a heavily ornamented stone façade featuring life-sized statues of Spanish Old Masters, including Velázquez, Murillo, and Zurbarán. Designed by architect William Templeton Johnson and opened in nineteen twenty-six, the building draws its plateresque style from sixteenth-century Spanish Renaissance models like the University of Salamanca. It stands on the north side of the Plaza de Panama as the city's oldest and largest art museum.
