The Variety Playhouse is marked by an Art Deco-style facade and a marquee that has greeted patrons on Euclid Avenue since nineteen forty. Built as the Euclid Theatre by the Lucas and Jenkins company, the structure originally featured a staggered seating plan designed so that no patron sat directly behind another. It opened in October of nineteen forty with the film My Favorite Wife and operated as a neighborhood cinema for two decades before shuttering in nineteen sixty-two.
