Montgomery Park

The most distinct feature of Montgomery Park is the massive neon sign perched on its roof, which spans three hundred feet across the top of the building. This structure began its life in nineteen twenty as a nine-story warehouse and retail hub for Montgomery Ward, and at the time of its completion, it was the largest building in Portland by floor space. Rail spurs once ran directly into the basement to deliver freight, and the building eventually grew into a U-shaped facility by nineteen thirty-six to accommodate the company's vast mail-order operations.
