museum

The Pittock Mansion is a French Renaissance-style château recognizable by its bright, red-tiled roof and its position one thousand feet above the city in the West Hills. Completed in nineteen fourteen for publisher Henry Pittock and his wife, Georgiana, this sixteen thousand-square-foot estate was designed by architect Edward T. Foulkes. The house was built to showcase both the couple’s prominence and the latest technology of the era, featuring a central vacuum system, intercoms, and a functional elevator.
