Mowbray Park

park garden

Mowbray Park sits along the riverfront in East Brisbane, recognizable by its steep, grassy slope that leads down from Lytton Road to the water. The land was once the private riverine estate of Reverend Thomas Mowbray, who arrived here in the eighteen fifties and built a home called Riversdale. When the South Brisbane City Council purchased the property in nineteen oh three, they preserved this stretch of riverfront rather than letting it be subdivided during the region's housing boom.
