The Main Beach Pavilion, often called Pavilion Thirty-Four, is a brick and concrete structure designed by architects Thomas Ramsay Hall and Lionel Blythewood Phillips. It features Spanish Mission style architecture and sits along the sand on MacArthur Parade. The building opened on December twenty-second, nineteen thirty-four, as a public bathing facility for the Southport Town Council. It provided showers, toilets, and separate changing rooms for men and women during an era when sea bathing evolved from a curative practice into a recreational pastime.
