Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

park garden

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is home to the Subantarctic Plant House, a unique facility where visitors walk through a chilly, mist-filled environment designed to mimic the climate of Macquarie Island. Established in eighteen eighteen, these fourteen hectares are the second oldest botanical gardens in Australia. The site occupies land originally belonging to the Muwinina people, and archaeological digs have unearthed shell middens and stone artifacts dating back more than five thousand years.
