The Two-Story Caravanserai, or Gasim Bey Caravanserai, stands out in the Old City of Baku for its octagonal inner courtyard and its historical dual function as both a commercial hub and a defensive structure. Built in the fifteenth century during the reign of Shirvanshah Khalilullah I, it was strategically designed with two opposing arched entrances to connect the sea trade routes with the main merchant highways of the fortress.
