The Palace of the Shirvanshahs is a sprawling complex of golden limestone buildings defined by their precise cubic volumes, ribbed domes, and intricate stone carvings. Located at the highest point of Baku’s Old City, this fifteenth-century residence was built by the Shirvanshah dynasty after an earthquake forced them to move their capital from Shemakha to Baku. The site includes a royal palace, a mosque with a slender minaret, burial vaults, a bathhouse, and the tomb of the court scholar and astrologer Seyid Yahya Bakuvi.
