The Mausoleum of Shajar al-Durr is a small, square stone building capped with a prominent, fluted keel-shaped dome. It stands on al-Khalifa Street, a site originally chosen by the sultan for its proximity to shrines of female saints. Built around twelve-fifty, this chamber is the only remaining structure from a larger royal complex that once included a palace, a bathhouse, and a school.
