The Aqsunqur Mosque is defined by the thousands of hand-painted blue and green Iznik tiles that line its interior walls, creating patterns of cypress trees, tulips, and vases. Completed in thirteen forty-seven by the Mamluk Emir Shams al-Din Aqsunqur, the building was originally a monument to his power and a family burial site.
