The Pont de Gevrier marks a crossing point in the area historically tied to the former commune of Cran-Gevrier. This settlement takes its name from the parish of Gevrier, which occupied the heights, and the hamlet of Cran, situated down by the banks of the Thiou River. Long before modern urban expansion, the inhabitants of this landscape lived primarily on the higher ground of Gevrier and Annecy-le-Vieux.
